The morning Pearl update is a good one - her respiration rate has gone back down to normal and for the first time in as long as I can remember, she displayed a suckling reflex. This means that her sinus congestion is finally breaking; so long as her nose was completely stuffed, she wouldn't latch on a bottle because that creates a suffocating sensation, so the fact that she is latching is really encouraging news. They are going to see if she can be weaned off of oxygen and I'll get another update in the evening.
Re: Poor little Pearl is still on oxygen, but she is still alive.
The vet this morning told me Pearl seems to be responding well enough to the new treatment that they are going to see how she does off oxygen today. Also, their radiologist compared the X-rays and confirmed the pneumonia is improving.
Re: I read that too and was going to post it. Thanks.
You know, when Ben brought little Pearl home on the weekend before last he knew the risk but he should have had an oxygen tank and mask ready at home. He was lucky that he didn't lose Pearl on the drive back to the hospital.

Pearl has continued to hold steady after being off oxygen over night, so barring any changes, I will pick her up and take her home this evening for home monitoring and weaning. Assuming that goes well, and it doesn't sound like there is any reason to expect it won't, it shouldn't be that much longer before she can rejoin her family.
Her right eye is still sealed shut and the staff [sign in to see URL]... the eye guy will give it one more look today but it may be that the skin has grafted together and it will never open. But as I said earlier, a one-eyed Pearl is a lot better than the alternatives we were facing during her struggles.
I (thankfully) missed the message board drama from either late last night or early this morning, but wanted to thank each and every one of you on this board for your words of support and all of the contributions you made to help us cover her rather expensive vet bills. We could not have done this without you. This community is truly a wonderful, loving family and it was thanks to you that Pearl can finally come home!
Re: This is a great video! You are right. Pearl wants to cuddle up. I hope she can do that with her mom, soon. I sure wish they could fix her eye. It sounded like the eyeball behind the lid is probably OK.
Re: Ben said the eye doctor would have another look at her eye before she left the hospital two days ago. I guess the doctor decided to do nothing.
Someone speculated that there might be no eyeball and if there is an eyeball it will be so badly scared from the infection it would be blind.
I missed the reunion, it was about a couple hours ago. Mom Jade accepted her and tried to give her a hug and a ruff baff but little Pearl was strong enough to escape and run away! I think Pearl likes this new home with mom cat and brother, they're better than those two monster doggies.
This is a screen cap of Nina petting Pearl on her lap.
Re: Three new kittens added to the family on Aug 15. Mom Jade hissed at the first one that came to her but after a good bathing she accepted the new kitten then she rolled over to offer the milk bar. LOL

Everybody loves each other and they play wildly running and jumping like crazy. They all love Nina the staff lady.
Obi is 2 Lbs and is the heaviest, next heaviest at 1 Lb 14 oz is the new girl, the new boys are a little lighter than the new girl. Recovering Pearl's weight is around 1 Lb 9 oz, she is now nursing on her mom, in fact they all are nursing.
Re: There is a great close up tonight of Jade and 3 of the kittens. Jade has her shaved tummy from her surgery. A gray kitten, maybe Pearl is trying to get supper off of Jade. That orange kitten is sooooo pretty.
